Cursor Is Now Sold Through the X Subscription (2026): What Changed, What Each Tier Includes, and the Alternatives

Cursor is now sold through the X Subscription: as of October 23, 2026, Cursor's pricing page lists Free, Plus at $8 a month (Grok models only), Premium at $30, Super at $100, and Ultra at $200, with subscriptions sold "directly through X Subscription Corp". If you want Claude or GPT models in Cursor, you need Premium or above, and Cursor bills third-party models at API list price.

xAI announced the X Subscription on October 12, 2026, rolling out globally "over the next few days". It bundles Grok, Cursor, and X Premium with one shared usage pool. Everything below comes from cursor.com/pricing, xAI's X Subscription docs, and xAI's announcement, read on October 23, 2026.

X says list prices do not include sales tax, which may be added at checkout. Cursor usage refreshes weekly. The usage labels are the vendors' own, and the pages we read do not convert them into requests or dollars.

What changed for existing Cursor users

  • Plan names and prices changed: Cursor's page no longer shows the Pro ($20), Pro+ ($60), and Ultra ($200) structure we recorded on June 11, 2026.
  • Old plans keep running: X says existing SuperGrok, Cursor, and X Premium plans continue unless you change or cancel them, and switching to an X Subscription tier gives a prorated refund.
  • One usage pool: Grok apps, Grok on X, and Cursor draw on the same allowance, so heavy Grok chat use leaves less for coding, and the other way round.
  • Third-party models are billed at API list price: Claude, GPT, and other non-Grok models.
  • The seller changed: Cursor says subscriptions are sold through X Subscription Corp.

What third-party models cost on Cursor

Because Cursor bills non-Grok models at the model vendor's API list price, the vendor price sheets tell you what heavy use costs. As of October 23, 2026, per million input and output tokens:

API list prices of popular coding models (October 23, 2026)
ModelInput / output per 1M tokens
GPT-6.1 Sol (OpenAI)$2 / $10
Claude Sonnet 5.5 (Anthropic)$2 / $10
Claude Opus 5.5 (Anthropic)$4 / $20
Gemini 4 Argon (Google)$2 / $10 through November 30, 2026; $4 / $20 from December 1, 2026
Grok 4.7 (xAI API, for reference)$2 / $6 under 200K prompt tokens

Example: 5 million input and 1 million output tokens of Claude Opus 5.5 in a month cost $20 plus $20, so $40 at list price. The same tokens on Claude Sonnet 5.5 or GPT-6.1 Sol cost $10 plus $10, so $20. Check your Cursor usage dashboard to see how these charges appear on your plan before you scale up.

At $100 a month: Cursor Super vs the alternatives

The $100 rung is where the comparison gets interesting, because four different products now sit at the same price. Each spends your $100 on a different thing, so the right pick depends on which models you want and where you work.

  • Cursor Super ($100): 15x usage in the shared Grok and Cursor pool. Best if Grok models cover most of your coding and you also use Grok elsewhere; Claude and GPT tokens are still billed at API list price.
  • Claude Max 5x ($100): 5x Claude Pro usage per 5-hour session for Claude chat and Claude Code together, with a weekly limit and a separate weekly Fable limit. The included $100 of API credits cannot be used in Claude Code.
  • GitHub Copilot Max ($100): $200 of AI Credits for Copilot, which includes Gemini 4 Argon among its models. Best if your work happens inside GitHub and your IDE.
  • ChatGPT Pro 100 ($100): Codex and ChatGPT Work currently without a five-hour limit, plus GPT-6 Pro in Chat with a weekly allowance.

A practical test: write down the three models you used most last month. If two of them are Grok, Cursor Super fits. If they are Claude models, Claude Max 5x avoids per-token charges. If they are OpenAI models, ChatGPT Pro 100 does. If you switch models constantly, Copilot Max gives you a dollar pool across vendors.

Which should you choose?

  • Stay on your legacy Cursor plan if it still covers your work: X says it continues until you change or cancel it.
  • Choose Cursor Plus ($8) if Grok models are enough and you want the cheapest paid tier in this comparison.
  • Choose Cursor Premium ($30) if you also want SuperGrok and X Premium+, and you can budget API list price for Claude or GPT.
  • Choose Claude Code on Claude Pro ($17 to $20) if you mostly want Claude models: they run inside the plan limits instead of per token.
  • Choose Codex if you already pay for ChatGPT: it is included in every ChatGPT plan, including Free.
  • Choose GitHub Copilot (from $10) if your team needs GitHub-native review and seat management.

Notes for buyers in the EU and Germany

xAI's announcement does not mention the EU specifically, and we found no euro prices for the X Subscription or Cursor on the vendor pages on October 23, 2026. Both list USD prices that exclude tax, and X says tax may be added at checkout, so check the final amount before you confirm.

FAQ

What happened to Cursor Pro at $20?

Cursor's pricing page no longer lists it. As of October 23, 2026, the closest tier is Premium at $30, which X says includes Cursor Pro together with SuperGrok and X Premium+. If you already pay for Cursor Pro, X says your plan continues unless you change or cancel it.

Does Cursor Plus include Claude or GPT?

No. Cursor lists Plus ($8 a month) as Grok models only. For third-party models you need Premium or above, and those models are billed at API list price.

Do Claude and GPT cost extra in Cursor?

Cursor bills third-party models at API list price, for example $4 / $20 per million tokens for Claude Opus 5.5 and $2 / $10 for GPT-6.1 Sol as of October 23, 2026. Grok models draw on the shared X Subscription pool.

Can I keep my old Cursor plan?

Yes. X's pricing docs say existing SuperGrok, Cursor, and X Premium plans continue unless changed or cancelled, and switching to a new tier gives a prorated refund.

Is the X Subscription available in Germany?

xAI said the X Subscription was rolling out globally from October 12, 2026, without a statement about the EU, and we could not find euro prices on the vendor pages. If you are in Germany, check the price and tax shown at checkout.
